The Stanbury Walker – British made luxury in wool
The Stanbury Walker is a traditional, ribbed, ankle length sock with a cushion sole. I make the socks from fleeces of the North Devon Exmoor Bluefaced sheep. British wool is an excellent fibre for socks as its ability to absorb moisture keeps feet warm and dry. The Stanbury Walker is named after the local Lynton farmer, John Stanbury, who breeds the very sheep that supply the wool.
I have the socks knitted by a traditional, family run sock manufacturer in the UK Midlands. The yarn from which they are knitted is spun and dyed for us in by John Arbon at the Fibre Harvest mill in North Devon.
I have designed The Stanbury Walker to be a comfortable walking sock for both men and women. There are three unisex sizes, small (UK shoe size 4-7), medium (8-10) and large (11-13). For EU Shoe Sizes and foot sizes, please see the Sizing Guide on every product page.
There are eight colourways, some of the names of the colours are related to areas in North Devon. Each colourway has a contrast top band:
Silver Grey / Damson
Terracotta / Petrol Blue
Petrol Blue/Fern Green
Lee Bay Blue/Foreland Red
Foreland Red/Embelle Green
Embelle Green/Lee Bay Blue
Composition: 60% Exmoor Blueface wool / 25% British wool / 15% Nylon. The nylon content provides enough stretch to give a good fit.
I use predominantly natural fibres, so please remember to read the care information.

Our natural fibre, unisex socks are kinder to your feet than synthetic alternatives, but this means they need a gentle wash. We recommend our alpaca and wool socks are gently hand washed and rinsed in tepid water, squeezing gently rather than wringing. A vigorous machine wash (whatever the temperature) with too much detergent or long spin, may result in shrinkage.
Leave to dry naturally and do not put in a tumble dryer.
