Description

Alpaca Loose-Top Socks

Alpaca Loose-Top Socks are ankle length socks.  In place of a ribbed cuff, which may be uncomfortable for some, I give them a non-elastic ribbed body so they stay in place.

I use alpaca fibre because it provides excellent insulation and wicking properties, keeping your feet warm and dry. The socks’ lightweight construction means they can be worn all year round.

These socks are knitted to our specifications by a traditional, family run sock manufacturer in the Midlands. You can see photographs of the processes we use on our Facebook page.

Everyday wear for men and women. There are three unisex sizes, small (shoe size 4-7), medium (8-10) and large (11-13). For EU Shoe Sizes and foot sizes, please see the Sizing Guide on every product page.

There are six solid colours available: Black, Damson,  Moss, Natural White, Red and Royal Blue.  Why not also look at the Somerset Loose Top?  This is the same style, but knitted in my blend of British alpaca and wool.

Composition: 60% Alpaca / 40% Nylon. The nylon content provides enough stretch to give a good fit.

Returns and Exchanges

If you wish to return unwanted items, please post them back to us, unworn, and with their original packaging within 28 days.  Please include details of your original order or where you purchased the item.  We can only refund or exchange items purchased directly from us.

Care Information
Our natural fibre, unisex socks are kinder to your feet than synthetic alternatives, but this means they need a gentle wash. We recommend our alpaca and wool socks are gently hand washed and rinsed in tepid water, squeezing gently rather than wringing.  A vigorous machine wash (whatever the temperature) with too much detergent or long spin, may result in shrinkage.

Leave to dry naturally and do not put in a tumble dryer.

A comfortable, everyday, unisex sock with a contrast heel and toe.  The Somerset Contrast is a warm, comfortable alpaca contrast dress sock.  This sock is a slightly heavier weight than some of our other alpaca dress socks as it has been knitted a bit more closely.  By mixing alpaca and wool, the sock has excellent insulation and wicking properties. The nylon gives the sock enough stretch to give a good fit over a range of sizes. The Somerset Contrast has a plain knit toe, sole and heel with a 1 x 1 ribbed cuff.  I make these in three unisex sizes, small (shoe size 4-7), medium (8-10) and large (11-13). Composition: 46% British Alpaca / 46% British Blue Faced Leicester Wool/ 8% Nylon.  The yarn has not been superwash or shrink-resist treated, so please wash and dry gently.

The Pencil Stripe Wool Sock is is a fine wool dress sock.  This ankle length sock has a solid heel, toe and cuff, with a narrow contrast stripe.  It's light enough to wear comfortably all year round. The sock is knitted from 60% Merino wool with 40% nylon for a comfortable fit. Buy three or more pairs for £10 per pair.

The Somerset Marl is a warm, comfortable everyday sock with a wide, 3 x 1 ribbed leg and instep, plain knit sole, heel and toe and 1x1 rib cuff.  The sock is knitted in a marl with the toe and heel in a solid colour. By mixing alpaca and wool, the sock has excellent insulation and wicking properties. By adding nylon, the sock has enough stretch to give a good fit over a range of sizes.  The yarn was spun and organically dyed here in the UK for us.  I've also used it to knit the Somerset Shortie and the Somerset Contrast socks. I make these in three unisex sizes, small (shoe size 4-7), medium (8-10) and large (11-13). Composition: 46% British Alpaca / 46% British Blue Faced Leicester Wool/ 8% Nylon.  This yarn has not been Superwash or shrink resist treated, so please wash and dry gently.

A traditional Argyle wool sock for men and women, knitted in the UK.  Like the Frome Fairisle, the Arbon Argyle is knitted in a very soft Falklands Corriedale wool with 25% nylon for stretch and durability. The traditional Argyle sock pattern is knitted in three different colour combinations of greys, cream, olive, khaki brown, sky blue and pink.  The sky blue colourway has diamonds of cream and pink with dark grey overcheck (the lines through the diamonds).  The Dark Grey colourway has diamonds of Khaki brown and Olive with a Sky blue overcheck.  The Cream colourway has diamonds of light and mid grey with a madder red overcheck. The socks come in three main sizes: small which is a shoe size 5-7, medium size which fits shoe sizes 8 to 10  and the large for shoe sizes 11-13.  We also have an extra small in the sky blue colourway for shoe sizes 3-4. The yarn was spun and dyed and the socks knitted for us in the UK.

A comfortable, everyday, unisex sock with a low-profile ribbed cuff.  The Somerset Shortie has a plain knit toe, sole and heel with a 3 x 1 ribbed instep and short, 1 x 1 ribbed cuff. The Somerset Shortie is available in a small range of autumnal colours by knitting a strand of two different colours together to create a marled effect.  Most of the colourways also have a single colour toe and heel. These socks are knitted to our specifications by a traditional family run textile business in Yorkshire. I make these in three unisex sizes, small (shoe size 4-7), medium (8-10) and large (11-13). These are our new alpaca dress socks.  They are knitted to the same style as our standard alpaca dress socks, but we have increased the percentage of alpaca to 82% making them luxuriously soft and warm and a slightly heavier weight. These socks are designed for everyday wear by men and women.  These are ankle length socks with a ribbed cuff.  There are three unisex sizes, small (shoe size 4-7), medium (8-10) and large (11-13).  The nylon content provides enough stretch to give a good fit.  Alpaca fibre has excellent insulating and wicking proprties making it an ideal fibre from which to make socks. Somerset Scandi socks are unisex socks designed for everyday wear.  These are ankle length socks with a ribbed cuff.   The body has an Icelandic style design.  The cuff, heel and toe are knitted in a solid colour. These socks are knitted in yarn spun from British wools.  Wool provides excellent insulation and wicking properties, keeping your feet warm and dry.  The fleece was carefully sorted, spun and dyed in the UK.  The socks have then been knitted to my specifications by a traditional, family run sock manufacturer in the Midlands. There are three unisex sizes, small (shoe size 4-7), medium (8-10) and large (11-13). For EU Shoe Sizes and foot sizes, please see the Sizing Guide on every product page. These socks contain 75% wool.  The remaining fibre is Nylon for stretch to give a good fit and improved wear.  These natural fibres have not been superwash treated, so please remember to read the care information.  The socks will shrink and felt if not washed & dried with care. Our latest batch of Frome fairisle socks have been made by our knitter in the Scottish Highlands.  As before, they have been knitted in a very soft Falklands Corriedale wool , but this time we have added some brown fibre so that we have ended up with a light oatmeal/grey yarn.  Some of this we have left un-dyed and the rest has been dyed for us in Yorkshire.  The darker fibres add depth to the yarns.  The sock is knitted with 30% polyamide for stretch and durability. The Frome Fairisle is a slightly longer dress sock with a plain knitted heel and toe and a plain ribbed cuff. The sizing is different to most of our other socks.  The small which is a shoe size 4-7  has a leg length of 23cm or 9".  The medium size fits shoe sizes 7.5-9.5  and the large, shoe sizes 10-12.  Both these sizes have a leg length of 26cm or 10".
