Frome Fairisle Sock
£20.00
Our latest batch of Frome fairisle socks have been made by our knitter in the Scottish Highlands. As before, they have been knitted in a very soft Falklands Corriedale wool , but this time we have added some brown fibre so that we have ended up with a light oatmeal/grey yarn. Some of this we have left un-dyed and the rest has been dyed for us in Yorkshire. The darker fibres add depth to the yarns. The sock is knitted with 30% polyamide for stretch and durability.
The Frome Fairisle is a slightly longer dress sock with a plain knitted heel and toe and a plain ribbed cuff. The sizing is different to most of our other socks. The small which is a shoe size 4-7 has a leg length of 23cm or 9″. The medium size fits shoe sizes 7.5-9.5 and the large, shoe sizes 10-12. Both these sizes have a leg length of 26cm or 10″.
Description
Frome Fairisle Sock
The Frome Fairisle socks are made by my knitter in the Scottish Highlands. They are knitted in a very soft Falklands Corriedale wool , with the addition some brown fleece so that I have ended up with a light oatmeal/grey yarn. Some of this I have left un-dyed and the rest has been dyed for me in Yorkshire. The darker fibres add depth and interest to the dyed yarns. The sock is knitted with 30% polyamide for stretch and durability.
Last year’s colourways of Gold stripe, Kent stripe, Olive stripe, Rose stripe, Orange stripe and Rose & Orange stripe were also based on my oatmeal yarn.
Kent Stripe has a brown heel and cuff with Kent blue, orange and oatmeal motifs
- Rose Stripe has a mid grey heel and cuff with rose, oatmeal and Kent blue motifs
- Rose & Orange Stripe has an olive heel and cuff with rose, orange and oatmeal motifs
- Orange Stripe has an oatmeal heel and cuff with orange, brown and grey motifs
- Olive Stripe has a mid grey heel and cuff with orange, olive and oatmeal motifs
- Gold Stripe has has an oatmeal heel and cuff with Leven blue, rose and gold motifs
This year as well as repeating Kent Stripe and Rose & Orange Stripe, I have knitted the traditional fairisle motifs knitted in four colour combinations of greys, oatmeal, olive, blues, rose and gold.
- Gold has the same colours as last year’s Gold stripe, with the position of the gold and Leven blue reversed
- Blues & Orange has an oatmeal heel and cuff with orange, Leven and Kent blue motifs
- Leven Rose is similar to last year’s Rose Stripe, but with a slightly darker grey cuff and heel and the darker Leven blue replacing the Kent blue
- Greys & Olive has a dark grey heel and cuff with motifs of olive, lighter grey and oatmeal.
The Frome Fairisle is a slightly longer dress sock with a plain knitted heel and toe and a plain ribbed cuff. The slightly sizing is different to most of our other socks. The small which is a shoe size 4-7 has a leg length of 23cm or 9″. The medium size fits shoe sizes 7.5-9.5 and the large, shoe sizes 10-12. Both these sizes have a leg length of 26cm or 10″.
As I use natural fibres in my socks, they need to be treated gently. Please refer to the sock band or the Sock care page for washing information.

Care Information
Our natural fibre, unisex socks are kinder to your feet than synthetic alternatives, but this means they need a gentle wash. We recommend our alpaca and wool socks are gently hand washed and rinsed in tepid water, squeezing gently rather than wringing. A vigorous machine wash (whatever the temperature) with too much detergent or long spin, may result in shrinkage.
Leave to dry naturally and do not put in a tumble dryer.
